What’s New This Week

OKTOBERFEST - Sunday, October 5 - On October 5, after the 9:00 a.m. service, you can join us for our annual celebration of great food and fun. Sausages, applesauce, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, and a whole lot of fun.

ADULT FORUM - Beginning October 5 at 8:00 a.m. - A prayer attributed to St. Francis begins, ‘Make me an instrument of your peace.’

In sermons, at coffee hour, and before and after meetings, I have heard time and time again from so many of our members their anxieties about the state of politics in our country. We see and are a people who are angry, depressed, frustrated, and exhausted by what we are doing and how we are treating each other. At our organizational meeting there was a desire to discuss some of these topics from a faith standpoint, to ask what God might have to say about the difficult topics of our times, to explore together what loving our neighbors looks like in our deeply fractured society.

But before we can talk about hard topics directly, it is incumbent on us, for the sake of relationships in our church and in the rest of our lives, to learn how to do so. So adult forum invites you to join us in October for Make Me an Instrument of Peace: A Guide to Civil Discourse. Over several weeks we will think about how to talk about hard, emotional, topics, and how to listen to others. This curriculum comes from the Office of Governmental Relations of the Episcopal Church and includes virtual sessions taught by experts in civil discourse.

If we are serious about dialogue with people who disagree with us, if we want to be peacemakers who bring polarized people together, then this course is the ideal way to begin.

FALL TERRARIUM - Saturday, October 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - As the crisp autumn breeze rolls in and the leaves begin to change, it’s time to embrace Fall.
